Mercury in Aquarius
According to modern astrologers, Mercury is exalted in this sign. It does function well here, but according to ancient astrologers it is not exalted. Robert Schmidt says that when a planet is in exaltation, that issue enters into the awareness of the cosmic soul more brilliantly than would otherwise happen. Mercury here is very sharp, no doubt. It is indicative of a scientific mind that is well able to abstract and handle heirarchical logical problems with relative ease. Saturn organizes these concepts into classes with the ability to compartmentalize functions. You might want to watch a tendency for depression because Saturn will tend to focus Mercury predominantly on the negative.
In a diurnal chart, the heat and dryness of the day create an intellect that is sharp and able to make fine distinctions. This individual is skeptical and prone to put any theory to scientific analysis before believing in it.
In a nocturnal chart, Mercury is in its own trigon and is therefore essentially dignified. This individual is a very good communicator and good at making relational arguments if its lord, Saturn, happens to receive it.
