Mercury in Cancer
Mercury is influenced by the Moon in this sign. The thinking processes are not as objective and tend to be influenced by personal biases and prejudices. The native may not even be aware of these behavior patterns because they exist at the subconscious level. Because the Moon is very receptive, this position of Mercury is indicative of a very sharp memory, but the mind is not trained to be logical with ease due to the Moon's dyadic nature. This individuals decision making processes are easily influenced by emotion.
In a diurnal chart, the heat and dryness of the day counteract to some degree the tendency of the native to be easily swayed in their decisions by emotions. The native finds it easier to detach from personal bias and see things from more than one point of view. The heat of the day rarifies; causing the separation of like and unlike. Logical analysis becomes easier as a result.
In a nocturnal chart, the cold and wet of night amplify a tendency for the native to be subjective in their thinking processes. Due to increased connectivity of the wet nature of night, the natives memory is enhanced. However, the excess of these qualities makes it difficult for Mercury to make fine logical distinctions between things of like and unlike nature.
