Mercury in Capricorn
Saturns rulership over Mercury in this sign has the effect of slowing and concentrating logos making the native more methodical and serious in communications with others and in problem solving. They also have great powers of concentration. Some (like Einstein) are capable of great feats of heirarchical logic. If there are difficult aspects to Mercury then this individual may see things in terms of black and white and ignore the subtleties, or they may suffer from a speech impediment, or they may have trouble getting away from negative patterns of thought that are self defeating. Sometimes this individual tends to focus too much on the negative and forgets to consider the positive. Depression or hypercritical attitudes can result. They tend to be very practical and conservative and are more likely to lean to the political right.
In a diurnal chart, the dryness creates clear distinct thought and the heat rarifies intellectual issues so that only the relevant issues are focused upon. This creates a tendency towards analytical problem solving. This individual possesses good common sense and an ability to reason logically and methodically. They are quick to notice any flaws in an argument and make excellent scientists.
In a nocturnal chart, the wetness blurrs thought distinctions and may muddy the logic to some degree, but it is also possible that the native may focus on more difficult problems that just don't have quick and easy solutions. The coldness concentrates like and unlike together in closer proximity which makes problems harder to divide into logical subsections for analysis. As a result, they often have to approach problems indirectly to be able to solve them. Their thought processes may be more relational and metaphorical than analytical. They may be more prone to depression than their diurnal counterparts.
